To form a fiber reinforced metallic member of a multilayer structure in which a working layer relatively easy to be worked and a rigid layer high in rigidity and strength are laminated by impregnating a preform of a multilayer in which the characteristics of reinforcing fibers are different with matrix metal and to provide a fiber reinforced metallic member in which the part having high workability and the part having high rigidity are integrally formed.
In a fiber reinforced metallic member 1 in which a preform 2 formed of fibers F1 and F2 for reinforcing is cast into matrix metal M, which is molded, the preform 2 is formed by laminating plural fibrous layers, and, moreover, it is formed by changing the fibrous characteristics of each fibrous layer to improve the mechanical workability of the surface layer.
