To produce a fiber-reinforced norbornene polymer molding having high strengths, elastic modulus and impact resistance by integrally molding a norbornene polymer as the matrix and a reinforcement comprising continuous fibers wound into multiple layers.
A preferred norbornene polymer is polydicyclopentadiene. The objective molding is produced by impregnating continuous fibers with a composition containing a catalyst comprising a ruthenium-carbene copmlex of formula I or a ruthenium-vinylidene complex of formula II while simultaneously winding the fibers around a mandrel and then curing the composition. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each H, alkenyl, alkyl, aryl, carboxylate, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, aryloxy, alkoxycarbonyl or (substituted) alkylthio; X1 to X4 are each an anionic ligand; L1 to L4 are each a neutral electron donor provided two or three groups among X and L groups may combine with each other to form a multidentate chelated ligand; and R3 and R4 are each the same as R1 or R2 or are each a ferrocene derivative.
