Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filament which radiates polarized electromagnetic waves.SOLUTION: A filament comprises: a metal substrate 10; a dielectric layer 11 arranged on the substrate 10; and a plurality of metal particles 12 provided in the inside or on the surface of the dielectric layer 11. The metal particles 12 are shaped such that a diameter in a longer-axis direction is greater than that in a shorter-axis direction. The longer-axis direction of the metal particles 12 is oriented to a predetermined direction in the in-plane direction of the dielectric layer. The metal particles 12 cause absorption due to localized surface plasmons, thereby enhancing the radiation intensity of a polarization component in electromagnetic waves with a predetermined wavelength to be greater than that of a polarization component perpendicular thereto. Thus, light radiated from the filament is characterized such that a polarization component along the longer-axis direction of the metal particles has a greater intensity than a polarization component in the shorter-axis direction.
