Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new flaky powder having higher aspect ratio and controlled form and useful as a cosmetic component.
CONSTITUTION: This flaky powder is produced by dispersing a powdery phyllosilicate such as talc, mica, kaolin and sericite in a dispersion medium such as water, liquid alcohol or liquid hydrocarbon optionally using a dispersing agent, adding a hydrosol of a metal such as titanium, zinc, silicon, zirconium, cerium or aluminum to the dispersion and crushing with a ball mill, etc., in wet state. The flaky powder is prepared to have an average particle diameter of 0.1-100μm, a thickness of 0.01-1μm and an aspect ratio of ≥10, especially preferably ≥50 for compounding to a cosmetic. Since this flaky metal hydrosol composite powder has high aspect ratio compared with conventional flaky powder, i.e., a thin flake form, a cosmetic having improved optical characteristics and good feeling in use such as smoothness can be produced by compounding the flaky powder. The cosmetic can be imparted with a particular effect such as ultraviolet shielding effect by selecting the metal to be adsorbed to the powder.
