To provide a flame-retardant composition based on a polyamide and a polyolefin, especially a thermoplastic composition which is based on a polyamide and a polyolefin and contains a flame retardant, a phosphorus-containing plasticizer and zeolite, and being useful for insulation and protection of electric cables, and optical fibers, protection, and molding of cases of electrical machinery and apparatus and connectors.
The composition comprises, based on a total amount of 100 pts. wt., (1) 50-75 pts. wt. of a mixture of (A) a polyamide and (B) a polyolefin and (2) 25-50 pts. wt., based on the combined content of three ingredients, of a mixture of 0.1-48.4 pts. wt. of a flame retardant, 0.1-30 pts. wt. of a phosphorus-containing plasticizer and 0.1-10 pts. wt. of zeolite. The composition is classified as V0 or V1 in the UL94-VB test with a 1.6 mm thick specimen, has an elongation at the breaking point of 250-400%, measured by the ISO R 527-1B standard, shows no brittleness in a multiaxial impact test at room temperature (ISO 6603-2, 7.7 m/sec) and retains at least 50% of its mechanical characteristics after aging by leaving in 120°C hot air for 7 days.
