Abstract:

To provide flame-retardant foamed styrene-based resin particles having a reduced amount of a residual styrene-based monomer and using a combination of bromine-containing organic compounds so as to obtain a high flame-retardant effect with a small added amount of the bromine-containing organic compounds, and a method for producing the same.

The flame-retardant foamed styrene-based resin particles contain a foaming agent post-added by impregnation during or after polymerization and are obtained by suspension polymerization of a monomer mixture containing (B) bromine-containing organic compounds which are pre-added to (A) a styrene-based monomer prior to the polymerization and of which the total amount is 0.5-5 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt of the monomer. In the flame-retardant foamed polystyrene-based resin particles, the bromine-containing organic compounds are a mixture of (B-1) a bromine-containing organic compound having a 2,3-dibromo-2-alkylpropyl group and (B-2) a bromine-containing organic compound having a bromine content of 50 wt.% or more and no bromine bonded to a tertiary carbon atom.
