To provide an additive for a coating for obtaining an aqueous coating excellent in waterproofness and anti-fouling property of formed coated film and also excellent in general performance such as weather resistance, surface tacking, etc., in a good balance, and the aqueous coating containing such the additive for the coating.
This additive for the coating containing (A) an aqueous resin obtained by polymerizing (a) polymerizable unsaturated monomers is provided with that the acid value of the aqueous resin (A) is 20 to 60 mgKOH/g, and (a) the polymerizable unsaturated monomers contain (a1) a monomer having a hydroxy group and an ethylenic double bond. The coating containing such the additive for the coating is excellent in the waterproofness and fouling resistance of formed coated film, and further excellent in weather resistance and surface tacking, etc., generally in the good balance. The polymerizable unsaturated monomers (a) preferably contain (a2) a monomer having an alkoxysilyl group and the ethylenic double bond. The additive for the coating can be used as a fouling-resisting agent.
