To provide a flash-butt welding method and apparatus of steel plates, wherein the shield of a weld part can be stably used for a long time using non-flammable gas of high safety by solving a problem attributable to spatter deposition to a shield gas feed hole during the flash-butt welding, and further the gas feed is reduced from the viewpoint of reducing the running cost so as to suppress oxidation of the weld part, and obtain the high welding quality.
In the flash-butt welding of butted portions of steel plates, the magnetic field is applied to a welding space surrounded by a clamp die and a clamp die insert on upper and lower surfaces of the steel plates so as to be parallel to the width direction of the steel plates, and the welding space on the opposing spatter scattering direction with respect to the steel plates during the welding due to the interaction between the magnetic field and the current in the flash-butt welding is set to an inert gas atmosphere.
