Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a flexible fire-resistant material suitable for a fire-resistant gasket for buildings by incorporating a specified amount of carbon fibers cut to a specified length into a specified flame-retardant composite rubber-base raw material and molding the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A composite rubber-base raw material having a flame retardancy near to the UL standard V-0 (a raw material obtained by imparting flame retardancy to a base material comprising, e.g. a synthetic rubber, a silicone rubber or fluororubber or a composite thereof) is mixed with 2-40wt.% assembly of carbon fibers chopped to 20mm or shorter, and the mixture is molded. An example of the carbon fiber assembly is one obtained by cutting long PAN-base carbon fibers having a diameter of 3-10μm to a length of 2-20mm. Necessary ingredients, such as a foaming material, a vulcanizing agent, a stabilizing agent and a coloring agent, are incorporated into the molding mixture as required.
