To provide a fluorescent substance which is little in reduction of light emission strength even at high temperature.

The fluorescent substance shows a light emission peak in the range of the wavelength of 570-670 nm when being excited with light having a light emission peak in the wavelength range of 250-520 nm. The fluorescent substance contains a parent substance having a crystal structure substantially the same as the crystal structure of Sr₂Si₇Al₃ON₁₃, wherein the parent substance is activated with Eu and contains Sr and Ca such that the quantitative relationship shown by formula 0.008≤M_Ca/(M_Sr+M_Ca)≤0.114 (wherein, M_Ca is the mole number of Ca and M_Sr is the mole number of Sr) is satisfied.
