Title:
FLUORINATED FLUORENE DERIVATIVE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2010059165
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a new and stable liquid-crystalline or mesogenic compound having highly negative DC(dielectric constant) anisotropy and suitable as a component of a liquid crystal medium, to provide such a liquid crystal medium, and to provide optical and electro-optical display devices.

The compound is a new fluorinated fluorene derivative having negative dielectric constant anisotropy, being represented by formula 1: R1-(-A1-Z1-)k1-(A2-Z2-)k2-W-(-Z3-A3-)k3-(-Z4-A4)k4-R2 [wherein W is partial formula (2) (wherein L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, -CH2F, -CHF2 or -CF3, provided that L1 and L2 are not H at the same time, and that L3 and L4 are each independently H or F); and R1, R2, A1, A2, A3, A4, Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4, k1, k2, k3 and k4 have each a predetermined meaning]. The liquid crystal medium, and the optical and electro-optical display devices are also provided.
