To provide a method by which a foamed body of various aluminum alloys (or aluminum) not restricted to Mg-containing alloys can be continuously and highly efficiently manufactured as a long-size material having various cross sectional shapes with high yield while making a foaming rate controllable and also to provide a foamed body which can be obtained by such a method.
Al or an Al alloy is melted in a reactor vessel to prepare molten metal. Calcium is added and mixed to and with the molten metal. Further, in the same reactor vessel or another reactor vessel, a foaming agent is added into the molten metal and these are stirred and mixed. The resultant unfoamed molten metal or foaming-uncompleted molten metal having a foaming rate of 4 times or less is continuously poured into a moving casting mold held at a prescribed temperature and is continuously foamed and filled up in the casting mold. After the resultant foamed body is continuously carried out of the casting mold, cooling and solidification are applied to continuously manufacture the foamed body having a prescribed shape.
