Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a frame material for a vehicle body made of an aluminum alloy capable of absorbing higher impact energy, small in the dispersion of the quantity of the collision energy to be absorbed and more excellent in extrudability and bending workability as well and to provide a method for producing it.
SOLUTION: This frame material is the one composed of an aluminum alloy contg., by weight, 0.45 to 0.49% Mg and 0.30 to 0.36% Si and having 170 to 200 MPa 0.2% proof stress and 12 to 18% elongation. The aluminum alloy having the compsn. is subjected to homogenizing treatment at 530 to 600°C and is extruded at ≥530°C, and the extruded material is cooled to 100°C at a rate of ≥0.6°C per second and is moreover cooled to a room temp., and, within 120 hr cumulative holding time at <20°C, this is held at 20 to 40°C for ≥15 hr and is thereafter subjected to aging treatment at 165 to 210°C.
