Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a freshness preserving and growth promoting agent for plant derived from a microorganism capable of maintaining the freshness of perishable foods such as vegetable, fruit, etc., and fresh flowers during transportation and after distribution on the market, low in cost, having no fear of bad influence on human body and environment, by utilizing a viscous polysaccharide (biopolymer) having biodegradability produced by a microorganism and to provide a method for freshness preservation and growth promotion for plant using the agent.
SOLUTION: This freshness preserving and growth promoting agent comprises a viscous polysaccharide produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (FERM P-16,393) as a main component. The freshness preserving and growth promoting agent is applied to the surface of a plant or absorbed or added together with a fresh flower freshness preserving material.
