Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a front side member for car, which can be formed from a thin plate and which can achieve an enhanced impact energy absorbing ability.
CONSTITUTION: A front side member 10 is equipped with an inner panel 12 having a plurality of beads 18 extending up and down, an outer panel 14 which together with inner panel bounds a closed cross-section, and a reinforcement 16 arranged within this closed section. The outer panel 14 has also a plurality of beads 20 extending up and down at the same pitch as the beads 18 on the inner panel, and the beads 20 are arranged half a pitch dislocated from the beads 18. The reinforcement 16 is formed undulate so as to be convex toward the beads 18 in that part of inner panel which is mating with the beads 18 and also convex toward the beads 20 in that part of outer panel which is mating with the beads 20.
