Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new (azolylmethyl)cyclopentanol derivative useful as an active component of agrichemicals such as agricultural and horticultural fungicide or pharmaceuticals such as an anti-aromatase agent.
CONSTITUTION: The (azolylmethyl)cyclopentanol derivative of formula I (X is halogen, 1-5C alkyl, haloalkyl, phenyl, cyano or nitro; (n) is integer of 0-5; A is CH or N), e.g. 2-(p-chlorobenzyl)-4,4-dimethyl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl) cyclopentanol. The compound of formula I can be produced by benzylating a 2-oxocyclopentacarboxylic acid alkyl ester derivative of formula VII with a halide of formula VI (Z1 is halogen) in the presence of a base to obtain a compound of formula V (R1 is alkyl), hydrolyzing and decarboxylating the compound, converting the obtained compound of formula IV into an oxaspiroheptane derivative of formula III and reacting the derivative with an azole compound of formula II.
