Abstract:

To surely prevent stress from being concentrated on a step part of a stepped-type MEA with a simple configuration.

In a fuel cell 10, an electrolyte membrane/electrode structure 12 is held by a cathode-side separator 14 and an anode-side separator 16. A plane dimension of a first gas diffusion layer 20b constituting a cathode electrode 20 is set to be larger than a plane dimension of a second gas diffusion layer 22b constituting an anode electrode 22. In the anode side separator 16, a thin-wall shaped escape part 24 in the thickness direction is provided in a portion opposite to the outer peripheral portion of the second gas diffusion layer 22b.
