Abstract:

To safely intensity a vertical eddy generating in a reentrance type cavity 8 formed at the upper part of a piston 1 even under an operation condi tion in which the temperature in the cavity is relatively high.

This fuel combustion device is provided with a fuel injection valve 9 for injecting a fuel toward a lip 11 of an opening edge of the cavity 8 of the piston 1, and is composed such that the region of fuel vapor 16 is formed near the lip 11 by making the fuel sprayed by the injection valve 9 reach the lip 11 during ignition delay, and an expansion flow is generated by igniting the fuel vapor 16 at the front of fuel injection direction to induce the fuel vapor in the front of ignition position to the bottom of the cavity 8 by applying to the peripheral wall face 12 thereof. Further, the device is provided with a control means for extending an ignition delay period to a prescribed one or more in either one of the cases that an engine load is a prescribed one or heavier, that a supercharging pressure P applied to the intake air is a prescribed one P0 or higher, or that an intake temperature Tin is a predetermined one Tin0 or higher.
