Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently lower the sulfur content of a heavy oil containing a light fraction in satisfactory yields without changing the performances after desulfurization by re-desulfurizing a fraction obtained by directly desulfurizing the heavy oil and distilling the product of desulfurization. SOLUTION: It is desirable to adopt the process as a process for desulfurizing a light oil. The heavy oil containing a light oil can be obtained by adding a light oil fraction to a heavy oil obtained by previous distillation or by setting the 90% evaporation temperature of the straight light oil in a step of fractionating crude oil at a temperature which is lower by at least 5% than the 90% evaporation temperature of a usual straight-run light oil. It is desirable that the re-desulfurization is performed after the straight-run light oil distilled at a temperature equal to or lower than the 90% evaporation temperature in the crude oil distillation step with the light oil fraction obtained by distilling the desulfurized heavy oil. The direct desulfurization is performed in three stages in which the hydrogenation treatments are performed by using catalysts having mean pore diameters of 120-250 Å, 120-170 Å, and 40-120 Å, respectively, and the re-desulfurization comprises hydrogenation with a catalyst having a mean pore diameter of 40-120 Å.
