PURPOSE: To provide a bright display provided with a high contrast ratio.
CONSTITUTION: This full-color display device is provided with a high efficiency light source 22 optically coupled to the active matrix 16 of the picture elements of the image formation means of a tarnsmissive liquid crystal light bulb or the like by an optical coupling lens array 50. The light source is composed of the patterned matrix of the independent light emitting bodies of primary color visible light radiation like indenpendent light emitting body elements or the like and arranged by a method suitable for integrating respective primary color light to a single mixed color by the eyes of a human. The optical coupling lens array 50 gathers practically all laser beams radiated from the respective primary color light emitting bodies and focuses them as real images smaller than the dimension of an electrode on each transparent electrode inside the active matrix 16. The light focused by the use of the optical coupling lens array 50 for gathering and focusing the light beams from the light source can be passed through an incident polarization device by minimum diffusion or scattering and passed through the respective transparent electrodes inside the active matrix 16 without being obstructed by opaque picture element mutual connection elements further.
