To provide a gas alarm for stably and accurately detecting gas to be detected over a long period of time, without its gas detecting part being contaminated even if exposed to miscellaneous gases other than the gas to be detected.
The gas alarm comprises the gas detecting part 1 for detecting the gas; a gas introducing part 2 for introducing gases; a gas shutting part 7; and a control part 3 for driving the gas detecting part 1 intermittently in such a way as to introduce the gases during drive and to shut off the gases during stop. The gas shutting part 7 protects the gas detecting part 1 and a filter part 4 against exposure to miscellaneous gases and reduces the time during which the gas detecting part 1 and the filter part 4 are exposed to miscellaneous gases, thereby extending the life of the gas alarm. Also, intermittently driving the gas detecting part 1 saves power.
