Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasket material which is excellent in the uniformity of surface pressure by forming an org.-peroxide-cured foamed rubber sheet contg. microcapsular foamed particles from an unvulcanized compsn. of EPDM contg. propylene units and dicyclopentadiene units each in a specified content.
SOLUTION: This gasket material is prepd. by forming, on at least one side of a metal sheet, a foamed rubber layer contg. microcapsular foamed particles which are thermally expanded with a low-boiling hydrocarbon blowing agent (e.g. isobutane) at about 120-200°C. A sheet of an unvulcanized compsn. of EPDM contg. 25-45wt.% propylene units and 8-26wt.% dicyclopentadiene units in a thickness of about 0.05-0.5mm is stuck to an adhesive-coated metal sheet. The compsn. contains about 5-50 pts.wt. microcapsular particles, about 0.5-15 pts.wt. org peroxide (e.g. benzoyl peroxide), a filler, etc., based on 100 pts.wt. EPDM. The sheet of the compsn. stuck to the metal sheet is heated, vulcanized, and foamed, thus giving a laminate.
