PURPOSE: To provide a secure seal to the deformation of a water chamber and a pipe plate in the running of a heat exchanger by inserting a high rigidity material in a high elasticity material to provide the construction of a gasket branch having both the elasticity and rigidity.
CONSTITUTION: The branch portion of a gasket 13 enters a groove provided in the central portion of a pipe plate 2 to prevent the pipe side fluid 16 from entering a water chamber 1B after heat exchange. This gasket ranch portion is constituted from high elasticity tube-like rubber 14 and rigid flat steel 15 which extends through the rubber 14 and is mounted on a gasket body 13 by soldering or the like. In the beginning of running, the distance between the front face of a partition plate 5 and the bottom surface of pipe plate 2 groove is expanded by the deformation of water chamber due to running pressure and thermal deformation of pipe plate 2 due to the temperature gradient in the direction of thickness or the like, while the gasket branch follows up the expansion with the elasticity of rubber 14 to recover the original condition and hold the seal property.
