Abstract:

To provide a gear milling cutter which has predictable shapes in semi-finished teeth, and also forms a face restricting a convex part and a concave part which are defects of the face, and an insert.

The gear milling cutter includes a cutting edge (32) which is formed between a cutting face (30) and a flank (31), and extends between a pair of opposing ends of the insert. The cutting edge (32) includes a partial cutting edge (324) which is disposed between a linear main cutting edge (321) and one end (33), and shorter than the main cutting edge (321) in addition to the linear main cutting edge (321), the partial cutting edge (324) offset from a linear reference line (RL) in an extension direction of the main cutting edge (321), more particularly, in a direction of the end (33) at an angle of the deviation of at most 10° (α).
