Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a growing method of ceramic whiskers and a production method of a fiber reinforced composite material so that strength and toughness of a fiber reinforced composite material in the direction to which fibers are not oriented can be improved without impairing the strength and toughness of the material in the orienting direction of fibers.
CONSTITUTION: Ceramic whiskers are grown by a chemical gas phase packing method in pores having min. 0.1μm diameter included in a porous body or aggregated body of fine chips consisting of carbon or ceramics. Ceramic whiskers are grown by chemical gas phase packing method on fiber surface of one-, two- or three-dimensional aggregate of carbon fiber or ceramic fiber. Then the aggregate is impregnated with carbon, ceramic, metal or resin to produce the fiber-reinforced composite material.
