PURPOSE: To give proper information to a person waiting for an elevator by displaying waiting time in the period before registration of a hall call, and changing over the display to the car position depending upon hall call registration or allocation.

CONSTITUTION: Car No. data of elevator in service in the nth floor j-direction is read out of a service elevator memory table 5 received from a group supervisory operation control device 3 while the elevator is in operation. Judgement is made whether any hall button is registered or hall call is allocated, and if no hall call is allocated, a display signal is given to a guide display device 1 of the n'th floor, and the waiting time is displayed. Allocation of hall call is made, and judgement is made whether this is identical to the elevator operating direction, and if yes, the car position is displayed on the guide display device 1. When the display mode request to the device 1 is established, the display date preparation in the command mode is conducted.
