To provide a hand holding type power tool furnished with a means to prevent undesirable rotation of an output shaft and furnished with a self-compensating function against abrasion.

This hand holding type power tool is furnished with a housing, a braking member fixed in the housing and the output shaft to rotate in the housing. The output shaft is furnished with an outer end part to receive an attachment. A ratchet wheel provided on the output shaft is free to rotate in one direction or in the other direction and furnished with a side surface directed in a first surface of a friction member and a plurality of recessed parts extended toward the ratchet wheel inside from the side surface and arranged with intervals. The friction member is key-engaged with the output shaft and rotates with the output shaft. A plurality of engaging members are received in each of the recessed parts and pressedly comes contact to and energized to a first surface of the friction member outside from the inside of each of the recessed parts. Additionally, a second surface on the opposite side of the first surface pressedly comes contact to on the braking member and held not to be rotated in the opposite direction of the rotating driving direction.
