Abstract:
To provide a hard carbon coating tool having high adhesion resistance and breakage resistance, and a cutting method using the tool in cutting nonferrous metals, or their alloys, organic materials, and composite materials or the like.
The hard carbon coating tool is equipped with a base material, and a hard carbon coating 21 coating this base material. The hard carbon coating 21 has a crater 22 on its surface, and the density of the crater 22 is within ranging from 100 pieces/mm2 to 2×105 pieces/mm2. High characteristics can be obtained especially in lubricity and cooling capability by holding a coolant to the crater 22, and tool life can be extended by improving the adhesion resistance.
