Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardening method for obtaining hot rolled work tool steel having high toughness.SOLUTION: There is provided a hardening method for steel including quick-cooling a hot rolled work tool steel containing, by mass%, C:0.32 to 0.45%, Si:0.01 to less than 0.8%, Mn:0.1 to 0.8%, Ni:0 to less than 0.8%, Cr:4.5 to 5.6%, Mo and W of (Mo+1/2 W):2.0 to 3.5% as a single or a composite, V:0.5 to 1.0%, Co:0 to 2.0% and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, from a hardening temperature at 1020 to 1070°C to 530°C at high speed within 80 minutes. There is preferably provided a hardening method for steel by cooling till 150°C at slow speed with 60 to 250 minutes after the high speed cooling.
