Title:
HEAT INSULATING MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3186993
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a heat insulating material usable in a prescribed high temp. range and excellent in mechanical characteristics and heat resistance by fixing the intertwisting points of mullite fibers and silica fibers used in a specified ratio with a glassy boron compd. so as to form a three-dimensional network structure.
SOLUTION: This heat insulating material contains 75-95wt.% mullite fibers, 5-25wt.% silica fibers and a glassy boron compd. fixing the intertwisting points of these fibers. When a silicon carbide-base heat radiating material is further incorporated by ≤20wt.% of the total amt. of the mullite and silica fibers, the transmission of radiant heat is prevented and heat insulating performance is further enhanced. This heat insulating material has 0.08-0.3g/cm3 bulk density, ≤1.0% rate of shrinkage by heating and ≥1.5kgf/cm2 interlaminar tensile strength after heating at 1,500°C. A boron compd. as stock for forming the glassy boron compd. is, e.g. boron oxide, boron nitride or boron carbide.
