Abstract:
To energize a heater by a method with which damage to the heater is reduced to detect abnormality.SOLUTION: When a fixing device 20 does not perform a fixing operation (before a fixing operation), a control unit 3 turns on a DC current line L2 (turns off an AC current line L1) to supply DC current to a heater 35. When an overcurrent detection unit 54 does not detect overcurrent, the control unit 3 turns on the AC current line L1 (turns off the DC current line L2) to supply AC current to the heater 35, thereby causing the fixing device to execute the fixing operation. When the overcurrent detection unit 54 detects the overcurrent, the control unit 3 turns off a relay circuit 33 and does not turn on the AC current line L1, and causes a display 41 to display an error message indicating the occurrence of an abnormality in the heater 35.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
