To provide a heating device which can easily heat and hold a magnesium-based sheet material and has a simple configuration; and to provide a heating/rolling method using the heating device, the heating device hardly causing ignition of and damage to the magnesium-based sheet material, in particular even in hot rolling in which the magnesium-based sheet material is heated up to and held at 450-566°C.

A heating device includes: an implement made of graphite that has a space into which a magnesium-based sheet material can be inserted and that is formed so as to surround the space, and an induction heating coil arranged on the outer periphery of the implement, and the heating device raises the temperature of the sheet material indirectly using the implement made of graphite as a heat source by the induction heating of the implement made of graphite with the induction heating coil. It is desirable that the surface coating of the implement, the coating of the coil using ceramic insulator and the implement enable the sheet material continuously pass through them and the heating device can raise the temperature of the sheet material up to 450-566°C. A heating/rolling method for heating the sheet material up to 450-566°C, and then rolling the sheet material can be performed using the heating device.
