To present a method by which a glow plug is controlled more efficiently.
In a method for heating the glow plug to a setting temperature by using a glow program specifying the time transition of effective voltage generated by using pulse width modulation and applied for heating the glow plug, and in a method given to other glow plugs in the same model series in which the glow program is stored in a control device and the glow plug and a parameter are within the range of manufacturing tolerance, the deviation of the parameter of the glow plug from a nominal value typical in the model series is determined, and the glow program is altered as a function of the deviation. Furthermore, a glow plug control device is for performing such a type of method.
