PURPOSE: To lower the heights of both machine and table to miniaturize the machine, by arranging broaches 6 movably in the vertical direction, in parallel with a helical lead bar so that they are coupled with the helical lead bar through the intermediary of a gear train, and by setting a workpiece on a table which are movable in the vertical direction and onto which the helical lead bar is secured.
CONSTITUTION: A helical lead bar 9 and broaches 6 are pulled up by means of a cylinder 11 through the intermediary of a gear train 8, and then the broaches 6 are pulled out from a workpiece mounting bed 4 for setting workpieces 5 on the latter. Further, lowering is again made by means of the cylinder 11 to insert and lock the broaches 6 into pull-heads 2, and the broaches 6 are pulled by a tension cylinders provided in the upper section. Accordingly, the table 3 is elevated by a drive means 20, and is rotated by means of a lead nut 10, the lead bar 9, the gear train 8 and a retrieving head 7 to form a helical groove. When the blade section of each broach 6 passes over the workpiece 5, the tension cylinder and the retrieving head 7 are opened, and therefore, broaches 6 may be pulled out from the workpieces 5.
