To provide ultrafine particles with a high refractive index, excellent in dispersibility, lightfastness, weather resistance and transparency, and to provide a sol-solution and a high refractive index coating material containing the same excellent in dispersion stability, coating application suitability, and to provide a high refractive index coating composition capable of forming an optical thin film such as an antireflection film, a reflection increasing film, a permselective film, UV cut film or the like, with excellent lightfastness, weather resistance, transparency, scratch resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance or the like on a display surface of an LCD or a CRT, etc., and various optical lenses in applying on a transparent substrate such as a resin or glass.
The invention relates to the coating composition comprising (1) ultrafine particles of a composite oxides comprising rutile type titanium oxide with 1.5-2.8 refractive index as nuclei with a coating layer composed of a metal oxide or sol thereof, (2) hardenable binder component, and (3) water or an organic solvent, and the invention relates to the optical thin film formed by utilizing the composition and to the optical substrate having the thin film.
