PURPOSE: To readily and accurately measure the subject compound used for clinical biochemical examinations, etc., by acting galactose dehydrogenase, a thio-NAD(P) and an NAD(P) on a specimen and carrying out an enzymatic cycling reaction.
CONSTITUTION: D-galactose is quantitatively analyzed by acting a reagent containing (A) a coenzyme (A1) such as thionicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (thio-NAD) or thionicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (thio-NADP), (B) (B1), e.g. a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) reduced type product or a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP) reduced type product and (C) galactose dehydrogenase capable of promoting a reversible reaction in which D-galactonolactone is produced from D-galactose as the substrate on a specimen containing D-galactose, carrying out a cycling reaction of the formula [(A2) is reduced type product of (A1); (B2) is oxidized type product of (B1)] and measuring the amount of (A2) or (B1) varied in the reaction.
