Title:
HOLDER OF HALF-SOLIDIFIED METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0488135
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To uniformly maintain the temp. distribution of a half-solidified metal and to prevent the increase of a solid phase rate by stirring the half-solidified metal in which the solid phase and liquid phase coexist by means of stirrers consisting of ceramics heaters at the time of temporarily storing the half- solidified metal in a holding container.

CONSTITUTION: The slurry-like half-solidified metal 5 where the solid phase and the liquid phase coexist is put into the refractory container 1 and is once stored in the container 1 in the process of casting this metal. The temp. of the half-solidified metal 5 is lowered by the heat radiation from the surface or the transfer heat by the container 1, by which the solid phase rate thereof is increased more than necessary and the flowability is remarkably degraded. The supply of such metal to the ensuing stage is then difficult. The half- solidified metal 5 is heated by the ceramics heaters 4 which are connected to a power source 8 via a rotary joint 7 in the half-solidified metal 5 and are used as the stirrers, y which the temp. distribution of the half-solidified metal 5 is uniformized and the half-solidified metal is held as the half-solidified metal 5 having no change in the solid phase rate.
