A holding apparatus for molten core material according to an embodiment is the holding apparatus for the molten core material disposed below a reactor pressure vessel, and the holding apparatus is provided with a heat-resistant layer comprising a plurality of blocks containing oxide ceramic and being laid so as to have a predetermined clearance at least in a horizontal direction. The holding apparatus is further provided with coating materials being formed on a surface of a joint section equivalent to the predetermined clearance between blocks being adjacent to each other of the plurality of blocks and containing at least one metal selected from the group of tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, rhenium, hafnium, zirconium and titanium.
