Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a cam shaft and to decrease a manufacturing cost, by a method wherein cutting processing is applied on a part of a pipe made of steel to form a small part, and the small part forms a journal part directly. CONSTITUTION:A hollow cam shaft is formed with a bearing part 12 reduced in the size of a pipe by cutting a part of the outer periphery of a pipe 10 made of steel, serving as a shaft, to a specified width and depth. A cam member 14 has an engaging hole sized to be about equal to the outer periphery of a large part 11 of the pipe 10 made of steel, and is engaged with the large part 11. This eliminates a journal piece, and enables reduction of the weight of the whole of the cam shaft and decrease of a manufacturing cost.
