Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon membrane achieving both high permeability and high selectivity by having an optimum pore structure when being used as the separation membrane of a mixture.SOLUTION: A raw material polymer is sodium-substituted sulfonated polyphenylene oxide. A membrane-forming stock solution is made by dissolving the raw material polymer in a soluble organic solvent. Membrane-formed object is formed while substituting a part of sodium with ammonium by bringing the membrane-forming stock solution into contact with a solution containing an ammonium salt and a polymer membrane is obtained by drying the membrane-formed object. A carbon membrane obtained by the carbonization of the polymer membrane has a sodium content of 1,000-20,000 mg/kg.
