Abstract:

To provide a hollow metal of an inexpensive magnesium alloy which is simple to manufacture.

A magnesium alloy preform with a foaming agent uniformly dispersed therein is formed by using a Mg-Al-Zn-based magnesium alloy sheet with the foaming agent (0.5 to 2.0mass% titanium hydride powder) held therein as a raw material, and repeating laminating, diffusion joining, rolling, and cutting of the magnesium alloy sheet. Next, the preform is cut and thereafter the preform is heated in an inert gaseous atmosphere to allow the foaming agent to foam and the hollow metal sphere of 1 to 10 mm in diameter is formed by the expansion force thereof.
