Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new hollow single crystal whiskers of aluminum borate which are expected to be applicable to a composite material, a chemical material, a heat insulating material, a filter medium of a filter or the like.
SOLUTION: The hollow single crystal whiskers of aluminum borate are obtained by drying an Al2O3 powder into which a methanol solution containing dissolved NaBH4 is impregnated, then pouring an aqueous NiCl2 solution and an aqueous NaBH4 solution to the Al2O3 powder, cleaning the obtained precipitate in the order of aqueous ammonia and methanol, heating the resulting material at 100-200°C in gaseous hydrogen stream and further heating at 950-1,200°C in a gaseous nitrogen stream or a mixed gas stream of gaseous nitrogen and gaseous hydrogen.
