The honeycomb filter 20 includes a trapping layer 24 having a high porosity region 24b. In this honeycomb filter 20, therefore, the permeation resistance near the surface of partition portion 22 is small, compared to the permeation resistance near the surface of partition portion 22 in a honeycomb filter not having the high porosity region 24b. This further reduces, for example, pressure loss when a fluid passes through the honeycomb filter 20 at a high flow rate. The porosity of the high porosity region 24b is 10% or more higher than that of a non-high porosity region 24a. As a result, the permeation resistance near the surface of the partition portion 22 can certainly be reduced to surely offer the effect of reducing pressure loss.
