PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which is a catalyst carrier and functions as a heater by applying a voltage and can reduce energy in purifying exhaust gas by applying a voltage.SOLUTION: There is provided a honeycomb structure 100 which comprises: a cylindrical honeycomb structure part 4 having a porous partition wall 1 and an outer peripheral wall 3 for partitioning and forming a plurality of cells 2; and a pair of electrode parts 21 disposed at a side surface 5 of the honeycomb structure part 4, wherein the honeycomb structure part 4 has an electric resistivity of 1 to 200 Ωcm, each of the pair of electrode parts 21 is formed in a strip-shape extending in a direction of extension of the cells 2 of the honeycomb structure part 4, one of the electrode parts 21 is disposed on the opposite side across the center of the honeycomb structure part 4 with respect to the other of the electrode parts 21 in the pair of electrode parts 21, the honeycomb structure part 4 is composed of an inflow-side area 6 and an outflow-side area 7 and the electric resistivity of a material constituting the inflow-side area 6 is lower than the electric resistivity of a material constituting the out-flow side area 7.
