Abstract:

To provide a highly reliable pump facility and an operating method, by preventing turbulence of a flow near an intake port caused by back-flow in a suction part, smoothly sucking air therein to shorten the starting time, and thereby improving the startability and ease of maintenance.

In a horizontal shaft pump 1, air is sucked by a vacuum pump 9 to fill a pump casing 2 with water to start the horizontal shaft pump 1. The horizontal shaft pump 1 is started and rotated after the suction of air by the vacuum pump 9 and before the pump casing 2 is filled with water. The sucked air outlet 17 of a suction pipe 8 extended to the vacuum pump 9 is disposed upstream of an impeller of the pump casing 2, and is projected to the inside of the pump casing 2.
