To provide a hybrid vehicle for suppressing a deterioration in emission in starting an internal combustion engine, and for achieving sufficient lubrication, even when the internal combustion engine is operated with a high load and a high rotation just after the start, and also to provide a method for controlling the hybrid vehicle.
When the system start of a hybrid vehicle is performed, and the hybrid vehicle travels by electric traveling while an engine is not started in an electric traveling priority mode, and when an engine water temperature Tw is equal to or higher than a threshold Twref, and a vehicle speed V is equal to or higher than a threshold Vref or the absolute value of acceleration α is equal to or more than a threshold αref, a drive control of a motor MG1 is performed, and the motoring of the engine is performed to a reverse rotational direction while a fuel injection or ignition is not performed (S220, S240 to S280). Thus, even when fuel leaks owing to oil seal leak from a fuel injection valve, the fuel which has leaked is returned to an intake system, and the deterioration in emission is suppressed in starting the engine. The lubrication of the engine with lubricating oil is achieved thereby.
