To improve durability of a hydraulic auto tensioner by increasing connection strength of a spring seat composed of a metallic rod and a molded item of synthetic resin to form the hydraulic auto tensioner.
A lower end of a metallic rod 5 is slidably fitted in a sleeve 4 rising from an inner bottom surface of a cylinder 1, a return spring 8 is assembled between a spring seat 7 composed of a molded item of synthetic resin arranged at the upper part of the rod 5 and a bottom surface of the cylinder 1 so as to bias the cylinder 1 and the rod 5 toward their extending direction and then a check valve 16 is assembled in a passage 15 communicating a pressure chamber 6 formed inside the sleeve 4 and a reservoir chamber 14 arranged around the sleeve 4. The upper part of the rod 5 is provided with a cutting thickness part 31 having peripheral and axial engaging parts to cause the spring seat 7 molded by resin to be engaged with the cutting thickness part 31 to form a detent and axial anti-removing part.
