To provide a hydraulic transmission capable of favorably suppressing a partial load phenomenon of a friction member included in a lock-up clutch mechanism.
A torque converter 1 includes the hydraulic lock-up clutch mechanism 8 for mechanically carrying out direct connection of a front cover 2 and a turbine hub 5. The lock-up clutch mechanism 8 includes a lock-up piston 80 freely moving in an axial direction and capable of approaching and separating with respect to the front cover 2, and a friction plate 83 for coupling the lock-up piston 80 and the front cover 2. In the lock-up piston 80, axial movement to the front cover 2 is regulated by a snap ring 85 attached to a piston sliding part 5a of the turbine hub 5 until an oil pressure for mechanically carrying out the direction connection of the front cover 2 and the turbine hub 5 becomes substantially maximum.
