Title:
HYDROGEN STORAGE ALLOY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3263605
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen storage alloy minimal in hysteresis and plateau slope and capable of performing hydrogen occlusion/release highly reversibly.
SOLUTION: An ingot of an alloy, represented by composition formula A1-xQxB5-yRy [where A is La or Mm (misch metal) Q is Y B is Ni, R is Al and/or Mn, and the symbols (x) and (y) stand for 0-0.3 and 0-1, respectively], is heated at a temp. lower than the melting point, that is, a temp. at which the alloy keeps its solid-phase state for the prescribed time and then immersed in a liquid refrigerant and cooled rapidly to undergo solid phase quenching treatment, by which a hydrogen storage alloy is produced. Further, it is desirable to carry out solid phase quenching treatment at a temp. not lower than two- thirds the absolute temp. of the melting point of the alloy and lower than the melting point. Moreover, it is desirable to carry out solid phase quenching treatment in an atmosphere of inert gas with a purity as high as ≥99.9999%.
