PURPOSE: To output characters which are high in frequency of use with a dot font and to output the other characters with an outline font by providing an output control means which outputs characters with the outline font stored in a storage means unless the characters can be outputted with the dot font.

CONSTITUTION: The dot pattern font and outline font data are previously stored in a ROM 2 or RAM 3, or an external ROM 4, FD 10, a HD 11, etc. Almost all characters that the output controller handles are stored with the outline font and have the same character quality as usual, but characters of specific size which are high in frequency of use are previously stored as the dot font. When characters which are of specific size and specific are processed, their character patterns are outputted with the dot pattern font and characters of other size and characters which are of the specific size, but not specific are outputted by using the outline font as usual to reduce a processing at the time of a high frequency of use and also guarantee the same character quality as usual.
